AUSLAN

Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is a visual non-verbal language used by the Deaf to communicate and is used in a variety of settingd at our school including assemblies and celebrations.

Students at Heathcote Primary School learn Auslan from Foundation to Grade 6 for one hour per week throughout the year.

Students participate in simple interactions with their peers and develop communication skills through games, viewing recorded children's stories and events in their daily lives.  Students are able to develop an understanding of Deaf culture and reflect on the relationship between language, culture and identity.
